The State associations

Psychiatric self-help can look back self-confidently on the fact that there are State associations for families of the mentally ill in every Federal State. They represent the interests of the families concerned in the 16 Federal States, support and network the regional self-help groups. The duties of the State associations are growing with the increasing shift of responsibility for the concerns of psychiatric care and the implementation of laws passed by the federal government to the states, districts and municipalities.

This bestows great importance on the collaboration of State associations and the exchange of information and experience from individual States. The State associations represent the most important point of contact for the regional self-help groups. As well as the Federal Association, the State associations also regularly organise conferences and seminars on current questions, and offer advice to families seeking help.

If you would like to contact the State associations for families of mentally ill people active in your State, please click on the logo of the State association. You will find there valuable facts about the particular State association, its offers for families with mentally ill patients, its priorities and projects.
